Overheard

Although I didn't think much of it at the time but . . . Kyle was at our house last night and commented that he overheard me talking to Luke on Sunday, and thought it was hilarious!

Sunday, in between services, I went down to check on Luke. He was running WILD around the basement with his friend Carl. It was time to go into class and the other children had already entered their classroom. Luke, on the other hand is still running frantically around the basement. I say, "Luke it's time to go to class" and he runs in the opposite direction. I catch his arm and repeat, "Luke it's time to go to class". He looks at me and says, "But mommy the lion is chasing me! I have to get away from the lion." (This is when Kyle overheard us) I reply, "Luke, even when a lion is chasing you, you still have to obey your mommy and go into class."

Maybe that's when you know you're finally getting this parenting thing down. When you can say things like this with a straight face and it takes someone else to overhear you to point out how obscure your reality has become.
