when love is not enough

well, we just got back from Pittsburgh, where we had been in new staff training for the CCO (coalition for christian outreach). It was great to see the people we had met earlier this summer! Unfortunately, we had to leave a day early . . .

Tuesday morning Luke slammed the door to our room and Logan's finger got in the way. We heard the scream, and John ran to open the door. Since I am a big weeny, I didn't want to look and see if he was hurt, so John ran Logan to the sink, only to discover that the top of his right, index finger was barely hanging on. Yeah, pretty gross. Logan was hysterical, of course, and I was trying to maintain composure. After a very long, 15 minute ride, in an ambulance we arrived at the ER, where they tried for what seemed like an eternity, to set his finger in a splint. This was quite a chore because Logan's little 14 month old finger didn't fit the adult size splints! Finally after some numbing medicine and combined effort they set his finger so they could take an x-ray. Thankfully the bone was ok! But they still had to take him into surgery. In surgery they had to amputate the end of his finger to clean it and then they stitched it back on. They don't know if it will reattach. They said that if he were an adult, it would not. But, since he is so young there is a much better chance that it will. The most difficult part of everthing was holding him and having him look at me, and knowing there was nothing I could do. No matter how much I love him, love wasn't enough to fix his finger or make the pain stop. Tomorrow we will go to the orthopedic surgeon, at Cincinnati Children's hospital. They will let us know how things are healing up. We'll keep you updated and we hope that you'll keep us in your prayers.

Oh Shan, that's terrible! I'll definitely be praying for little Logan! Once when we were little, I slammed my sister's hand in the sliding door of our van. Kayla's injuries weren't as extensive as Logans, she only had to have stitches. But I felt sooooo horrible! So I'll be praying for Luke too. :)
